The Founders Ridge Residential Community, Inc. Annual Meeting of Members will be held on November 18, 2025.
Spider Mite Infestations
The HOA has been informed that some properties within Founders Ridge may be experiencing significant spider mite activity affecting yard trees. Homeowners are encouraged to inspect their landscaping for signs of possible infestation.
To assist in identification, reference images have been made available. Residents are advised to check trees—particularly junipers and other evergreens—for the following indicators:
- Poor or stunted leaf or needle development
- Fine white webbing at the tips of branches or buds
- An unusual number of fallen needles on the ground
- A general thinning or sparse appearance in the tree canopy
In junipers, infestations may be especially noticeable due to excessive needle drop and overall decline in fullness.
Spider Mite Information
Spider mites are extremely small, spider-like pests that feed on plant tissue, causing visible damage that often appears before the mites themselves are noticed. While they are difficult to detect with the naked eye, signs of infestation may include:
Identification and Signs of Damage:
- Size and Appearance: Approximately 1/150 to 1/50 inch in size, with eight legs and no antennae
- Damage: Yellow speckling on leaves, bronzing, curling, or fine webbing (often on undersides of leaves or tips of new growth)
- Preferred Conditions: Hot, dry environments; commonly found on trees, shrubs, and even indoor plants
Recommendations:
The HOA does not provide pest control services for privately owned trees. Homeowners are responsible for monitoring and managing the health of their landscape vegetation. The following measures may assist with control and prevention:
- Early Detection: Regularly inspect plants, particularly the undersides of leaves and new growth
- Reduce Plant Stress: Maintain proper watering and fertilization practices
- Physical Removal: Use high-pressure water spray to dislodge mites
- Pesticide Use: If treatment is necessary, select low-toxicity options and apply them according to label instructions, focusing on the undersides of leaves
- Biological Controls: Beneficial insects such as predatory mites and ladybugs may help suppress spider mite populations
For additional guidance, homeowners are encouraged to consult with a certified arborist or contact local resources such as Texas A&M AgriLife Extension or Aggie Horticulture for detailed information on identification and management.
City of Dripping Springs - Code of Ordinances Sec. 28.06.055
Oak Wilt Management
- Trimming or cutting of any oak species is prohibited from the first day of February to the last day of July. Permission may be granted by the development review committee to any person wishing to trim or cut an oak tree susceptible to oak wilt during the prohibited months, provided that the person agrees to comply with this section as it relates to painting wounds. Trimming or cutting of trees are allowed during the prohibited months if done in response to damage caused by weather. Trimming or cutting can be done by the entity, property owner, or a licensed professional or landscape company. In the case of oak species, wounds must be painted with an acceptable wound dressing within 30 minutes from the time of cutting.
- Contractors or individuals identified pruning any oak without a demonstrated ability to seal all wounds greater that 0.75 inches within 30 minutes of the time of cutting will be required to cease all work until a wound sealant is onsite and utilized on the project.
- Infected red oaks that die in late summer, fall or early winter should be cut down and burned when allowed, buried, or chipped soon after discovery to prevent fungal mats that may form on these trees the following spring.
- Potential oak wilt investigations should be performed by a member of the Texas Forest Service, a Certified Arborist or the City Arborist. For information on oak wilt identification, spread and management reference www.texasoakwilt.org.
- In the case of emergencies due to tree damage from weather events or other natural disaster the requirement for licensed professional tree care or landscaping company for review for trimming during prohibited months is not required if not available. In addition, painting within 30 minutes at the time of cutting is not required, but painting shall be done as soon as possible.
